The current rumor going round the tech world is that Sony might introduce Blue Ray technology to PS3. The Blue Ray technology uses a blue laser, which reads discs at much higher wavelengths allowing discs to have more information stored on them (anywhere up to 50Gb) than the current Red Rays. This innovation, if it is actually implemented by the 2005/6 stage, would be similar time wise to when Sony introduced the DVD format to the PS2.

Sony have already used this technology on their blue ray disc system which allows you to save media files on it.
